THE SCOOP A former farming community, Melville is a thriving commercial and residential hamlet whose agricultural roots are still evident in the horse farms of the West Hills area and the ever-popular White Post Farms.
From 1909 to 1919, a cart crossed Route 110 and was only shut down after farmers complained the noise was disturbing their livestock.
Today, the area is known for Corridor 110, a 16-mile stretch with a section in Melville that includes office parks, corporate headquarters for Canon, Henry Schein and other major corporations, and an Amazon facility in construction.

The corridor is constantly expanding, with a range of businesses that includes a strip known as Furniture Alley and a good number of restaurants, all of which contribute significantly to the area’s tax base, David Gustin said. , president of the Melville Chamber of Commerce.
“The 110/Broadhollow Road corridor connects Amityville to Melville and Huntington, one of the most populated areas of the Suffolk community,” says Gustin.
But Melville isn’t just office parks and places to shop.

Calling Melville a “beautiful and peaceful neighborhood,” Nikki Perri, agent at Signature Premier Properties, says: “You’ll immediately notice the wide, tree-lined streets. This neighborhood is perfectly located near restaurants, shopping, parks, and a short drive to some of Long Island’s best beaches.”
In addition to several gated communities, there are numerous Colonials and Ranches and a few contemporary homes in the area, with prices starting in the mid-$500,000s and going up to around $5 million.

The hamlet is also home to the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, a sprawling and ornate Hindu temple that opened in 2016.
Melville’s central location and proximity to the Long Island Freeway and Northern State, Sagtikos and Southern State Parkways are a big plus, notes Huntington City Supervisor Ed Smith.
“If you’re a commuter, this is a great location because you have very easy access to the main east-west and north-south thoroughfares on Long Island,” he says.
